Announced September 2010: We wanted to reach out to you all in the hopes that some of you can help the Sadie Mae Foundation. As you all know the organization's mission is to save as many animals as possible from local shelters when their time has run out and they are in danger of being euthanized. Over the years our dedicated volunteers have rescued over 600 dogs and placed them into loving forever homes. Today that mission is in danger. Unfortunately we have lost the use of our kennel space in Bolton and are in desperate need of a new facility. Without a space to house these animals we will not be able to pull them from the kill shelters and many will be needlessly euthanized.

There are a number of ways you can help!

First and foremost, while we are looking for a new facility we urgently need foster homes for the dogs currently in our shelter and those we would like to rescue from the Hartford pound in the weeks and months to come. If you (or anyone you know) are willing/able to foster we need you! We know many of you may think you couldn't possibly foster a dog because you wouldn't be able to give him/her up. Our volunteers completely understand that concern and having been through it themselves, they wont say that it is not a difficult thing to do. However, we would urge you to reconsider. Fostering is an amazing experience. You can give a dog the opportunity to be well cared for in a safe and loving home, to learn socialization skills, learn how to be a considerate, well mannered member of a family and most of all to be happy and healthy while waiting for their forever home. And given the situation we find ourselves in now, you can literally save a life! You don't have to worry about any cost associated with caring for the animals. Second - if you or anyone you know works in commercial real estate or knows of any properties we might be interested in you can email inquiries@sadiemaefoundation.org. We are looking for a space that is up to 2000 sq feet, will cost about $1000 to rent per month and is in an area that would be appropriate for kennel noise. Some of the towns we are looking at are: East Windsor, South Windsor, Windsor, Bloomfield, East Hartford, Bolton and any of the surrounding towns.
